Launchy
A cool little application for Windows users who deal with many programs (read: more than one) would have to be something called Launchy.
This application is the epitome of running out of the box. You install it and it works. What it allows you to do is to run any program by hitting (by default) Alt-Space and simply typing in the name of the program. By default it searches and indexes all the links in your start menu and quick launch (which works for most people), but you can add more folders to index. You can also choose from some pretty nicely done themes.
Most importantly, it learns. As you type and select programs it learns the most often used ones and pretty soon you'll just have to type in one letter and it'll know what you want.
Its really adaptive and such a simple concept that its pretty amazing. The fact that it works so seamlessly is a bonus, and its just something I recommend to everyone.

I love Launchy and install it on pretty much every computer I own. For Linux, there is Gnome-DO which offers similar functionality with an easier plugin manager. But Launchy is still better.
