Quick Memory Improvement for Firefox

Its been a while since I posted, but I wanted to share a setting that really shouldn't be enabled by default in Firefox.

I had been following various threads on Firefox memory usage, and after installing Firefox 10 I noticed Firefox started with something like 200 MB of RAM but quickly ballooned to some 500 MB after a few tabs open.

After some research, I tried out a setting in the about:config page, and it literally halved my RAM usage, especially with large numbers of tabs.

This is the image.mem.decodeondraw setting in Firefox.

Increasing IIS 5.x Max Connections

So during normal debugging I've been annoyed quite a bit by a pretty often and randomly appearing error message. It was a HTTP 403.9 - Access Forbidden: Too many users are connected. Old Toolbar in Vista

So this past weekend I was feeling a bit adventurous, and I decided it might be a good idea to give Vista a try. Spending the next 8 hours installing, configuring, and reinstalling (because of a stupid drive order problem), I finally came out with a satisfactorily usable install of Microsoft Windows Vista (SP1). However, there was something that irked the crap out of me.

Launchy

A cool little application for Windows users who deal with many programs (read: more than one) would have to be something called Launchy.

And it begins

So it seems Drupal is just as convoluted as any other CMS system. Between the endless function-following and various other non-standard (read: not a way I would do it, but probably more standard than my way) ways to configure variables, I have finally found a way to get that damned Home link on the primary links without setting a database entry.
